Conference

and galleries around campus and the Crossroads Gallery District
in downtown Kansas City. SDA busses will provide ongoing transportation
from the KCAI campus to and around the gallery district. Browse
the galleries at your own pace, stop and eat at a local restaurant
or go back to campus and rest before the Trunk Show, the evenings'
main event.
In
addition to the Friday Exhibition Extravaganza, there will be
a bus trip on Sunday June 5, 3:30 - 6:00 to Johnson County
Community College to view Through a Contemporary Eye: Ancient
Peruvian Textiles and Submersed: Contemporary Altered
Books as well as a stop at Asiatica.
There
are so many amazing textile exhibits in the Kansas City area during
the conference, that you may consider staying an extra day or
two to visit them all.

Most of the conference activities will take place on the campus
of the Kansas City Art Institute and at the neighboring Marriott
Hotel in Kansas City, Missouri. Ranked among the nation's top
five art schools, KCAI provides a scenic 12-acre campus with workshop
facilities, classrooms and dorms. The Marriott offers large, comfortable
meeting rooms and lecture facilities. Other hotels and restaurants
are within walking distance of the campus.
Located
in the heart of Kansas City's cultural community, KCAI is ideally
situated between The Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art and the Kemper
Museum of Contemporary Art. Just a few blocks away is the Country
Club Plaza, which is famous for its food, theater, shopping and
architecture.
In Kansas City's Crossroads Arts District, long-vacant buildings
have been replaced by growing businesses, restaurants, residences
and a thriving art scene. One of Kansas City's best traditions
is First Fridays when all the galleries have openings and stay
open late. Thousands of Kansas City residents come to the gallery
district to view art and enjoy the evening.
