Through combining recycled samples and test fabrics from a Byzantine-themed
collection, with embellished digitally printed images of Las Vegas
entertainment icons, Avila intersects these two cultures in a 27’x9’
floating fabric mosaic.
Bird Ross •The 6000 Project•
During the proposal of this exhibition, the sum of civilian casualties
from the September 11th attacks and the air and land attacks in
Afganistan, equaled close to 6000 deaths. As an attempt to comprehend
this amount, and reflect on the misfortunes of war, Ross has focused
her studio techniques towards accumulating this number in different
forms. This exhibition is the result.
