Uncovering
The Surface
Friday June 3
Trunk Show Information
This
year's trunk show will take place in the Belger
Art Center
a beautiful restored warehouse located
in the heart of the Crossroads Arts District. The event will
be well publicized and is scheduled so that it will coincide
with Kansas City 's
popular First Friday's gallery night. So we expect to draw a
large crowd of Kansas City
residents.
The
trunk show will be open to the public from 6:00 p.m. – 9:00
p.m. on Friday June 3. Please note: we have extended
the hours of the trunk show so that it will begin at 6:00 .
More
information on where and when to drop off your boxes will be available
at the registration table at the conference. SDA will
provide transportation of your goods from KCAI to the Belger Art
Center . SDA busses will get you to and from the Trunk Show location.
As
a Trunk Show participant, you are responsible for:
- Getting your work
to the drop off location on time
- Unloading and Loading
at the site
- Setting up your booth
between the hours of 4:00 – 6:00
on Friday
- Manning your booth
during the hours of the trunk show
- Having change, receipts
and accepting money for purchases
- Shipping your boxes
back home
Setting
up your booth
Most
trunk spaces will consist of a 5 ft x 2 ft table with a brick
wall as a backdrop. You cannot use tape or nails to hang your
work on the walls behind you. However, you can use removable putty
– such as “UHU Tac” which can be found in hardware stores.
A
limited number of scaffold style tables with overhead lighting
will be available. They will work especially well for small things
like jewelry or scarves. The lighted booths will cost $15 extra
and will be sold on a first come, first serve basis.
A
limited number of spaces are situated in front of a fence rather
than a wall. The fence could be a great space to hang scarves,
garments on hangers or to attach heavier textiles. No extra charge
for a space with a fence.
If
you would like to reserve a lighted booth or request a fence back

Please
note that you will need to be at your booth from 6 – 9
on Friday night . You may want to get down to the crossroads
district early on Friday to have a chance to enjoy the other gallery
exhibits before the trunk show begins. During the trunk show,
you may want to bring along a friend or have the person in the
booth next to you help you watch your booth so you can get a break
or see more of the exhibitions.
You
can carry your trunk show items with you or you can have boxes
shipped directly to KCAI. You can check on their arrival at the
SDA conference registration booth. You will NOT be able to access
these boxes until the trunk show is being set up. If you have
items that you will need before the trunk show, you need to send
them in a separate box. (see instructions for shipping personal
boxes.)
You
MUST label your boxes clearly. We have hundreds of boxes being
shipped during the conference and the only way they will get to
the right place is if they are CLEARLY AND CORRECTLY labeled and
addressed.
