Dear SDA Members:
This a great time to be a member of the Surface Design Association. We're a venerable organization with a rich history and an exciting future.
Digital media makes it possible for us to see each others' faces - (Add YOUR PROFILE today!) read each others' stories and share successes, events and concerns. Facebook and the eNews keep the information coming and it's a wave of inspiring and thought-provoking stuff.
But I know sometimes I long for real time conversation with other textile lovers. Fondling the fabric and talking technique and intent! If that's what you love, too, find a meeting or event in your area. Our Representatives schedule get-togethers around the country. Attending is a perfect way to make friends and influence people. Don't have anything local on the calendar? We can help. Our Rep of Reps, Astrid Hilger Bennett can put you in touch with like-minded artists in no time flat.
But wait, there's more. A Journal where you can show your best and brightest work, a 2013 conference that promises to be a knock-out chance to network and learn. Grants for individual artists and Small Event Grants. A gorgeous collection of several hundred hand-crafted fabric swatches just waiting to arrive on your doorstep on loan. And so many projects still under construction I can't name all of them here. Plenty of opportunities to share and grow and learn - and feel great about giving back in the process. We need you.
The point? SDA is an incubator for brainstorms, community building and the power of shared vision. If you are already a member? Thanks for being in on the vision! And if you aren't a member? I know you'll love being part of us. You already are. All you've got to do is join!

Dear SDA Members:
As your new Executive Director, I am thrilled and honored to be a part of such a dynamic organization. SDA has been an important connection for me as I’ve ventured down my artistic path and I’m sure many of you share the same sentiment. For 35 years, this group has been a standard bearer in the textile and fiber world and it is an amazing assemblage of educators, artists, curators and collectors. A tremendous synergy has emerged and that’s what makes this opportunity so enticing for me. My hat is off to the SDA leadership and most specifically, to Candy Edgerley who is stepping down as President. We owe her a debt of gratitude for her dedication to the cause of Surface Design while she has guided the group with an always steady hand. As Jane Dunnewold moves into her role, I have no doubt that we will benefit from her energy and foresight. My goal is to continue the momentum as ways are discovered to further enhance the value of SDA for each of our members. I look forward to the challenges ahead, working with the board and staff and members. We can be a strong, vibrant organization with an engaged collaboration of ideas.
