The mission of Surface Design Association is to increase awareness,
understanding, and appreciation of textiles in the art and design
communities as well as in the general public.
We inspire creativity and encourage innovation, and further the rich
tradition of the textile arts through publications, exhibitions, conferences,
and educational opportunities.
Interested visitors are invited to apply for membership in the Surface
Design Association.

We wish you the warmest welcome to Surface Design Association!
Our organization is a family of dedicated artists and designers
who generously share what they make and how they think about
what they make. This creates a dynamic, wonderfully colorful,
caring atmosphere in which we all continue to learn about the
field and its practitioners. Surface Design has expanded into
a multi-disciplinary field that encompasses ancient as well as
the most recent technologies. We continue to seek fresh and
innovative ways to help one another express what is in our
minds and hearts.
Few arts organizations can boast our success! We continue to
grow and flourish because you are committed to creativity and
eager to learn about the work and thoughts of your colleagues.
We encourage networking and promotion of your work through
competitive exhibitions, conferences, publications, an
image library, swatch library, and a website. Through these channels we also bring
you professional advice, discussions on safety issues, technological
updates, educational opportunities, and studio recipes. The Journal,
Newsletter, Conferences, website, and special events are just some
of our tools for putting you in touch with the pulse of our membership.
Our staff is devoted to finding out what we can offer to help you on your way.
Join our more than 4000 members – a broad
spectrum of textile practitioners including studio artists,
industrial designers, educators, technicians, curators, gallery
owners, interior designers, students, and enthusiasts.
