Jeanne Raffer Beck is a studio artist whose mixed media fiber works explore memory and identity through fragments of handwriting. Jeanne has shown her work in juried, invitational and solo exhibitions throughout the United States, England and Australia. Her artwork is in books, including Textiles Now, Simple Screenprinting and Exploring Visual Imagery and magazines, including Surface Design Journal and Canandaigua Magazine. Her mixed media constructions are in several university collections, including University of Rochester’s Gleason Library. She is currently vice-president of the Surface Design Association, president of a contemporary art group in Rochester, NY and active in her studio building artists’ association.
Uncovering fragments of written ephemera and considering the lives they represent, along with excavating my own personal memories, create a foundation for my work. My pieces suggest remnants of individual memories and stories influenced by the passage of time.
