This photograph provides a closer look at the hand embellishments inspired by Hmong ceremonial clothing. Strands of faux pearls dangle in front of the quilted squares. On the end of each strand are replica French Indochina coins. The textile puckers from hand embroidered letters. Loose threads hang.

ALL OF MY GRANDPARENTS ARE REFUGEES, 2024
fabric, hanji (mulberry paper), embroidery thread, faux pearls, replica French Indochina coins 19" x 60"
Influenced by Korean bojagi, Hmong clothing, and the queer experience of being “in between”, ALL OF MY GRANDPARENTS ARE REFUGEES (2024) is a hand sewn, embroidered, and embellished hanging textile. The hand stitched poem reads “All of my / grandparents / are refugees / I remember / I pray / I listen”.
