This exhibition features thirty Canadian textile artists and their explorations into the realm of the sacred. The works span an array of traditional and innovative textile media. Including new perspectives on centuries-old religious vestments, liturgical items and ritual practices, and radical reinterpretations of sacred space and private meditation, the work of these artists offers significant insight into the important role cloth plays in the Canadian contemporary spiritual landscape. René Shoemaker, SDA member from Athens, Ga, currently lives in Limousin, France. Inspired by the beauty, land-use patterns, and everyday details of the town of Felletin, she created new paintings of place and, while working with a local silkscreening co-operative, she included serigraphy on silk, highlighted with hand-painted designs. Felletin and Aubusson are the historic tapestry centers of France; using dye to paint the silk, Shoemaker has formed a bond with the artisans of this region.Find out more »

Peterson's embroidery investigates cultural and environmental issues. Mixing a variety of source materials such as scientific data and early explorer’s journals, she stitches words on velvet and silk fabrics to make large narrative wall hangings.
