Join this exploratory paper and textiles-based intensive and learn solar 2-D processes and fiber techniques that can be applied to a variety of materials. Explore a myriad of ways to use nature as method and inspiration for solar dying, and embellishing methods such as mono-printing, oil pastels, image transfers, heat, and hand stitching to create elements of dimensional texture. In-studio sewing machines will provide opportunities to do free motion machine embroidery on pieces. Work with solar film transparencies, found objects and items from your collections to create patterns that will resist natural light and sun to print on surfaces. Your projects and ideas can include representational: landscape compositions, portraits, or defined solar printed objects, and the conceptual: abstract compositions, collages and more. This class is suitable for artists and fiber artists, designers and crafters who want to expand their repertoire.
