Image Statement: Some works are inspired by the organic latticework of butterflies, observed in Brasil, the Amazonian rainforest, and butterfly gardens in Africa, Chicago, Pittsburgh and Washington, DC. The beautiful structure of the butterfly, the rich color, the contrast of line and lively organic shape offer infinite design potential. Butterflies represent progressions found in nature, designs ranging from orderly to fluid, from complex to formal symmetry. Patterns create elegant, lively tension. While grids offer structure, organic grids, like curvilinear labyrinths, impose structure upon the abstract. From the desert to the rainforest, from bustling color filled markets to elegant breathtaking butterflies, design sources are ubiquitous. As artists we pick and choose, layer, collage, synthesize and weave it into a tapestry revealing interplay of pattern, surface and color.
