This workshop introduces you to the basics of Luneville embroidery. And yes – be prepared to work on the reverse side of the fabric! That means stitching beads and sequins without watching every stitch, instead feeling your way with your fingers. We’ll begin with the essentials: how to use the embroidery hook, set up your frame, and understand the materials. But most of the session will be hands-on. You’ll start with simple exercises – lines, circles, and squares. They may not sound exciting, but they’re essential for building your foundational skills. The most exciting part is the final lettering composition you’ll complete. It can be used as an embellishment or kept as a standalone piece – a reminder of your first steps into Luneville embroidery.
All sessions will be held online over Zoom and recorded. Recordings will be emailed to participants within 24 hours of the session. Recordings are available for one year. Live sessions are scheduled as follows:
- Saturday, September 20, 12-2PM ET (convert timezone)
- Wednesday, September 24, 7-8PM ET (convert timezone)
- Saturday, September 27, 12-2PM ET (convert timezone)
About Your Instructor
I’m Ksenia Semirova, an embroidery and textile artist based in the UK, with a background in industrial design and a Master’s degree in Textiles. I discovered Luneville embroidery in 2017 and began exploring it as a hobby. In 2019, I decided to pursue professional training, and since 2023, I’ve been working full-time with hand embroidery across different techniques and formats. My practice moves between art, craft, and fashion. While I often reflect on traditional methods and heritage, my focus is on exploring how embroidery can exist beyond the frame—whether through wearable pieces, contemporary compositions, or conceptual formats. I’m looking forward to sharing my approach with you in this workshop.
