A Week to Batik!
Come experience this magical Land of Enchantment in northern New Mexico. This is where Georgia O’Keeffe once lived and painted, inspired by the high desert and canyons.
Do you quilt, sew, decorate? Instead of buying mass-produced printed batik fabrics, create your own on 100% cotton in this fun batik intensive class. Batik is the ancient method of drawing, painting and printing on fabric with wax. The fabric is then dipped into a dye vat. We rinse, wax again and repeat in another color. As we layer colors we reflect on the brilliant tones of the southwest in our work. Once complete, we boil the fabric to remove excess wax, and voila you have now created one of a kind designer fabric! We will work with indigo and fiber reactive dyes! Would you like to learn about the origins and history of batik painting too?
Instructor has tjaps or metal stamps to print with, and lots of great supplies. Beginners are welcome. Most supplies are included and furnished, I will email a list of things for you to bring a few weeks before class begins.
