Dynamic Disperse Dyes with Lisa White Reber & Miriam Jacobs
Disperse dyes are used to dye man made synthetic fibers such as polyester and are applied along with a dispersing agent creating vibrant colors and saturations. In this workshop, two teachers from very different artistic backgrounds will demonstrate innovative ways of working with these dyes. For example, artists can use this under-appreciated dye as a printmaking medium, while quilters and crafters can use it to make their own fabric. The class will create an exciting dynamic in which participants will feed off of and inspire each other, stretching the boundaries of disperse dye as never before. You will learn how to use the dyes as a surface design printmaking medium for monoprints and ghost prints as well as direct application of dye to fabric with patterns developed organically, adding texture with heat and pressure. If the weather allows, we will also do sun printing. Beginner and Beyond
