“Art is the concrete representation of our most subtle feelings.” — Agnes Martin
I wish I could be motivated to create simply to produce things of beauty. Unfortunately that is not the way I work. While “beauty” is certainly an added benefit, it is not my primary goal. I work to express my innermost thoughts, my fears, my anxious moments… what keeps me up at night.
My art is directed by my emotions. Aging, self image, difficult life transitions, and anxiety have all informed my art. The current political climate, the drawn out war in Syria, and the complexities of running a business have all been fodder for expression.
Art is a mirror into my soul, and it is sometimes dark.
I would not say that I am a depressed or dark person. My art helps me work out inner conflicts and I am never happier than when I am working in my studio.
