Flora, Fauna and Landscape
Textile artists and teachers from Chile traveled to the United States in August of 2019 exhibit of ten of their art quilts. The trip was sponsored by Bernina Chile to promote a month-long, side gallery exhibit of their work during Quilt National 2019 at The Dairy Barn Arts Center, Athens, Ohio. The same summer, eight textile artists came together at the Dairy Barn to form TASO, Textile Artists of Southeast Ohio. The Chilean Quilters and TASO members met during a tour of Quilt National 2019 and in a fiber art workshop given by the Dairy Barn for their guests from Chile.
Both groups realized that they were presented with a great opportunity for organizing a future cooperative exchange for quilting inspiration. A decision was made to encourage artistic expressions via a theme that allowed for creative work without constraints. And thus, Flora, Fauna, and Landscape was created to focus on the habitat each artist lived and showcases each artists textile art style. Theses quilts will be exhibited first at the Parkersburg Art Center, Parkersburg WV, May7 – June 12, 2021. ‘Soft’ Opening May 7, 5:30pm and Closing Reception June 6, 1:30 pm. Other gallery exhibits will follow in the US through early 2023 and then it will be traveling to Chile through 2024.
