Jurors

CARRIE BURCKLE (she/her) is a visual artist, educator and nascent curator living in Los Angeles. She received her BFA in Textile Design and MFA in Fibers from California State University Long Beach where she currently teaches in the Fiber Program since 2002. She is also co-founder Textile Arts | Los Angeles along with Lesley Roberts. It was always her dream to create a community of Textile Artists in Los Angeles and she is very grateful to all of those artists that share her vision.

Carrie has exhibited at Craft Contemporary, Craft in America Center, Visions Art Museum; Mingei Museum, Leepa-Rattner Museum of Art, Downey Museum of Art, Collins Gallery, University of Strathclyde, Glasgow, among others. Her work has appeared in Fiber Art Now magazine. She is a member of Textile Society of America, American Craft Council, Surface Design Association SoCal Rep, and California Fibers.

BEN CUEVAS (he/him/they/them) is an artist working in textiles, sculpture, installation, photography, video, sound and performance based in Los Angeles. His practice underscores queer/feminist ideologies with a focus on the condition of embodiment. As a queer, non-binary, HIV-positive, Latinx artist, identity directly influences his work, which he often uses to raise awareness, highlighting the personal as political. Ben has exhibited around the country, is a prolific speaker and workshop facilitator and has been featured in numerous publications. Throughout its pluralities, his work reflects the condition of embodiment: exploring what it means to have a body, to inhabit a body, to be a body incarnated in and interacting with this world.
