Image Statement: Romance comics of the 1940s and 50s featured teary-eyed women who wept through their romantic and career struggles. I wanted to see these recurring images in a new light: in a sense reclaiming their importance as lessons we comics readers absorbed in our childhoods. Now looking back, and retelling their stories in a narrative quilt, I can appreciate their struggles and their tears.
