Big and Bold: A New Comfort Zone, with Joe Cunningham

In this five-day workshop, students will learn how to find and use ideas for starting a quilt and the techniques you need for making it. Learn how to balance positive and negative space while letting the quilt-in-process guide where to go. The instructor will lead a special session on quilting designs and how to use the quilting to extend the ideas in the quilt. This is a workshop for anyone who wants to feel more free in their approach to a quilt, who might feel blocked or as if they end up doing the same thing over and over.
Cost: $720 for the class; optional dorm accommodations start at $675

Quilting by the Lake is an annual two-week art quilt conference held on the Wells College campus and run by Schweinfurth Art Center. Workshops run 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily. Students check in to their dorms and move into classrooms on the Sunday before the workshop begins. There is a welcome dinner with a lecture Sunday night. See www.quiltingbythelake.org for details and to register.
