This workshop is designed to motivate and inspire you to focus on weaving as a creative process and increase your sensitivity to the perception of touch – our tactile sense – through experimentation with structure and surface. Inspired by the work and writings of the iconic artist and designer Anni Albers, this workshop experience will expand your vocabulary in the language of weaving. Using photographs as a starting point, you will interpret images into woven compositions using a variety of materials consciously selected to illustrate and evoke sensibility and emotion. Using the tactile language of textiles, this artistic pursuit is a purely creative exercise – to engage in weaving as a practice of meditation and explore a variety of techniques, materials, textures, and colors. Participants will use the instructor’s recently published book, Tactile Sensibility, A Weaving Workbook, as a foundation for this learning journey at the loom. At the completion of the workshop, the process of weaving beautiful compositions using your own creative muse will be demystified and your approach to the loom will be transformed.
