Broken Promises Dashed Dreams - From the time the others stepped foot on this land claiming it as their own, inequities existed. This piece represents the broken promises of treaties, emancipation, fair immigration, and protection for all being crushed by the white hand. The rich colors and textures of the fibers, and the beauty, denote the diverse peoples that bring an abundance of culture and color to our world.

I will always hold onto the fact that there are more people of color in this world than there are white/euro, yet the way they have bullied their way to positions of power it remains a battle of us versus them. There is light in the future as we continue to blend our families, our communities, and our values to become a more equal place where we can love and respect each other and honor our differences.

Have you ever seen a California sunset? Depending on the weather the sunsets can contain brilliant colors. I am a native Californian and have seen my share of unusual sunsets. I used my eco-friendly practice to interpret what I’ve seen and felt about these amazing sunsets. The colors of the California sunset are seen in this assemblage through the wrapping of fibers around found objects. This intuitive work shows the colorful sunsets seen over the beaches that line the California coast.
The innocent look of a child, of a Black child, speaks to us deeply. We see the potential and sometimes the heartache that is her future. But we start them out loving who they are, loving the fullness of their hair, and the blackness of their skin. But we have to do everything in our power to counter what she will be bombarded with every day through the media. She will pass that “baby doll test” because she will love who she is. She will know she is beautiful, smart and strong. It all begins with that puff of innocence.

Using repurposed bits and pieces and painting them with fiber I am representing the golden age of industrialization. My multimedia, multifaceted piece draws attention to the inventive nature we have come to enjoy and depend upon. You the viewer can just imagine the moving parts as it spits and sputters to create a product that we believe we so desperately need. Repurposed wood and wire wrapped with fiber accentuated with glass beads assemblage.
