Waves of Poppies, 2021
Hand-dyed and hand-painted cottons; rayon and metallic fibers; cotton and polyester threads; poly/cotton batting 50" x 35"
Waves of Poppies is my fourth in a series of floral quilts. I challenged myself to create more abstract flowers than those in my previous works. The goal was to provide the viewer an impression of movement and distance.

Under the Moon’s Spell, 2023
Found cotton, paper, textile paints, cotton and polyester threads, poly/cotton batting 24" x 24"
Inspired by the theme architectural edges, I drew upon a series of painted papers and fabrics. My goal was to create the mood of a quiet evening in a desert village as it might have been in antiquity.

Terra I, 2017
Hand-painted and found cottons, cotton and polyester threads, poly/cotton batting 38.5" x 27.5"
Maps inspired the artwork. Layers of fabric and texture were built up to reflect the way landmasses and our planet have formed. I worked improvisationally. I quilted two pieces of painted fabric, cut them apart, placed them on a foundation fabric, added new solid-colored fabrics, laid tulle over the top, then quilted again. The quilting lines reference the elevation lines of topographical maps. I hand-embroidered the top edge with a buttonhole stitch to emphasize the organic nature of the theme.

C-Thru, 2022
Cotton canvas, textile paints, masking tape, metallic and plastic rings, cotton and polyester fibers, poly/cotton batting 14" x 31.5"
"C-Thru" plays off the basic idea of a portal as an entry point or way, rather than the more formal door or window definition.

Sheer Joy on Two Wheels, 2021
Hand-painted and found cottons, acrylic and watercolor paints, cotton and polyester fibers, poly-cotton batting. 32" x 44"
Cycling was a favorite activity for me and my late husband. On the last day of a cycling trip through New Mexico, while riding from Taos to Red River he had a heart attack that he did not survive. Each year I participate in a one-day ride called the Bridge Pedal, a fundraiser for Providence Hospital’s heart research program. This quilt comes from a photo I took from the top of the Fremont Bridge during the Bridge Pedal. From the top of this bridge, you feel your fellow riders’ joy when they to stop to take in the Willamette River on both sides.

P is For Poppy and Periwinkle, 2020
Hand-dyed and found cottons; metallic and cotton threads and fibers, poly/cotton batting 67" x 39.5"
A neighbor’s garden planted with red and orange poppies bordered by periwinkle stalks of False Indigo, inspired my design. I created a triptych to give the impression of a panoramic view. Though I viewed the garden during daylight hours, I chose to create one lit by just a hint of moonlight at night.

Z is For Zinnia, C is For Cosmos, 2016
Hand-dyed and found cottons; metallic, rayon, and cotton threads and fibers; poly/cotton batting 30" x 40"
My goal was to give the viewer the feeling of gazing into a lush garden. The quilt brought together my skills and knowledge beginning with the design of stylized flowers that I brought to life with hand embroidery, hand-twisted cords, and machine quilting.
