Between Time, 2025
Yarn, acrylic gouache 16" x 14" each panel
Between Time reflects on the ways we give attention—through caregiving, through maintaining connections, and how it shifts along with our awareness when we gain new insights and understanding. The piece here began as a single painting, but as it was woven, it separated into two panels on the loom. It is a portrait of one of my children, based on a photograph from many years ago. I’ve been especially mindful in this time of how our attention shapes the experiences of children, it makes them feel safe to grow, explore, and begin to understand the world around them. Our attention is a gift—to our own children for sure, but the James Baldwin quote is also often on my mind: All children are Our children, all over the globe.
