Re-Rooted (after Anna Atkins/for Marilyn), 2024
Cyanotype on fabric 23 feet x 50"
Contact print of a Northern White Cedar and its root system. Made from 5 exposures of parts of the tree and sewn together to create a whole. Inspired by Anna Atkins extensive catalog of small botanical prints with root systems made in the 1840s. This work pays homage to Atkins' process of recording the natural world through cyanotypes. It is also the largest work I’ve ever made and is dedicated to my mother who dreamed of being an artist and made a pathway for me.
