Crescendo, 2023
Hand painted background on cotton; wet felting; needle felting; embroidery threads; beading; couching yarns. 20" x 96" with 6" felting extending over edges.
'Crescendo' is an metaphoric expression of the music "Bolero" by Ravel. Each section of the orchestra is introduced while the snare drums intensify the rhythm. The two distinct melodies are alternated until the orchestra comes fully together. This music intensifies as each round increases in volume over 16- 18 minutes creating a rather meditative ensnarling of the listener--ending abruptly in a very abrupt Crescendo!

A Little Sunshine, 2015
Commercial cotton; handpainted, hand dyed cottons; malleable wire insertion of individual petals; cotton batting; trapunto; beading; free motion stitching. 18" x 24"
Inspired by a Hopi Sunflower photo (also used for dyeing fabric), 'A Little Sunshine' is a 3-D representation of the sunflower. The petals may move freely as they do in nature. The center is heavly beaded as the seeds are found tightly together. The sunflower is truly majestic as a symbol of life and perseverance.
