Image Statement: How the Light Gets In IV references a traditional quilt that has been recreated in a contemporary style. Although this piece is big enough to sleep under, it wouldn’t be practical as a quilt because it lacks the strength and warmth that a quilt would provide. The colors of the silk organza pieces are painted with natural dyes. When these pieces of silk were assembled a whole new variety of colors emerged. The shapes were pieced with very simple and raw construction using overlapping seams. The threads create a linear aspect that add another dimension to the piece.
