Image Statement: SHODDY [n] Waste fibers shredded and milled from discarded and donated clothing. The materials used in this piece are garbage, waste, and unwanted fibers. I alter this fiber waste by dyeing, stiffening, shaping, painting, and many other techniques and processes. Hand-stitched together with thread (the only new material) the colors chosen flow from the industrial felt background removed from my old boxsprings. Creating an environmental catastrophe, the fast fashion industry produces increasing amounts of waste every year. Perhaps, you are like me and when you look carefully at the background, you might see bits of that polyester shirt you truly meant to wear, but never did.
