SDA Meetups connect individuals from around the globe in virtual groups based on disciplines and/or shared interests. Makers from all backgrounds and experience levels are valuable participants, and joining in a Meetup is a great way to make a positive impact by connecting with the SDA community.

Check out the topics and times available for these free casual, Zoom-based get togethers. Meetups are open to all SDA members. Participation is limited to 12 individuals per Meetup.

SDA Meetup: Sculpture with
Liz Quay

For this SDA meetup, we will engage in conversation about sculptural fiber art. Moderator Liz Hamilton Quay, is the Assistant Professor of Textiles & Material Studies at Kutztown University of Pennsylvania and considers herself a soft sculpture and materials artist. During the first meeting, she will introduce her work and her practice. She invites participants to bring images of their work or works in progress to share with the group. This is a casual event where questions and rich discussion are strongly encouraged. Additionally, we may discuss current themes in the field along with techniques and challenges.

SDA Meetup: Re-defining the Basket with
Lissa de Sailles

What is a basket and how does basketmaking bridge traditional and contemporary art? Traditionally baskets have been viewed as utilitarian objects, yet many contemporary artists are turning to traditional basketry techniques to enhance their practice. Click on the “Sign up here” button under the Meetup you want to attend. You will be directed to the registration form. You will receive a confirmation email with the zoom invite. You will need to sign up separately for each meetup in a series.

Participation is limited to 12 members per Meetup.

If the Meetup is full, you will be prompted to add your name to the waitlist.

Each Meetup has three sessions, one session per month for three consecutive months

No, given scheduling realities, it’s foreseeable that not every participant will be able to attend every meeting. You may sign up for one, two, or three Meetup sessions. There are separate sign up forms for each session.
