Sculptural Paper Casting

In this foundational paper-making workshop, students transform pulp into unique cast-paper sculptures. Starting with dry abaca pulp, we dive into the process of reconstituting, blending, dyeing and casting sheets with a traditional mold and deckle. Abaca paper is characterized by long fibers with impressive wet strength, making it ideal for manipulation. Students mold wet sheets onto objects at home, around the studio, or in the environment. This method of papermaking and casting demonstrates a DIY way of adapting the traditional craft to a personal studio setting.
All sessions will be held online over Zoom and recorded. Recordings will be emailed to participants within 24 hours of the session. Recordings are available for one year. Live sessions are scheduled as follows:

About Your Instructor
Leah Aegerter is an artist working in object-based sculpture and installation. She lives and works in Carbondale, CO, and spends much of her free time exploring the mountains and deserts of the American West on foot and raft. Using a combination of digital fabrication techniques and traditional processes in materials such as paper, wood and metal, her work investigates her relationship to geology and deep time. Leah received a BFA in Sculpture from the Rhode Island School of Design in 2017. In 2022 she was named an Aspen Art Museum Artist Fellow.
