Skill Level: Advanced Beginner to Advanced

In this class Vicki will show how she uses multiple photos to design a bold, graphic landscape. She will demonstrate simplifying the images using a tracing technique with clear sheet protectors or tracing paper as well as the drawing app Procreate on the iPad.

Then you will design your pattern from your own photos. (Vicki will share a pre-class video to help students choose a good photo for the class). The finished pattern will be enlarged and traced on Floriani Stitch and Wash Fusible stabilizer. The stabilizer is used as a template to construct the quilt and is left in the final piece!

There will be a discussion about how to use value effectively in your work and Vicki will assist you with fabric selection.

The foreground elements are constructed using Turned Edge Machine Piecing and the ombre sky is constructed by traditional foundation paper piecing. However, you design your own piecing pattern!

To learn both the turned edge machine piecing and the fussy piecing (used to construct an ombre sky) you will construct a simple rock landscape from Vicki’s pattern. Then you can begin to construct your own piece.

Vicki will also demonstrate how she silk screens the lettering on her quilts.
