The Kansas City Art Institute’s Fiber Department is seeking a new team member! We have an opening for a full-time tenure-track assistant professor position with a primary focus on weaving. The appointment will begin in August 2027.

Our department consists of three full-time faculty members, including Kim Eichler-Messmer, Marie Bannerot McInerney, and Pauline Verbeek, with experience across a wide range of fiber and textiles. Together, we draw on our diverse skills, perspectives, and backgrounds to thoughtfully steward our students’ art-making, research, and development as they enter the larger world of art, craft, and design.

Pauline, who has led weaving, fiber properties, and linear construction, will retire at the end of this year. While we will miss her, we are excited to welcome a new colleague who will complement our strengths and bring fresh perspectives to the department.

The KCAI Fiber Department is a very special place that values a deep understanding of making, thinking, and problem-solving rooted in material sensibility and research.
