Oceans of Empathy
Oceans of Empathy is a two-person exhibition at Boston Children’s Museum featuring the work of fiber artist and sculptor Rebecca McGee Tuck alongside National Geographic photographer and filmmaker Brian Skerry. Through photography and sculpture, the exhibition invites visitors to consider their relationship with the ocean and the life, materials, and human activity connected to it.
Tuck creates sculptures from marine debris and other materials collected along the New England coastline, transforming rope, fishing gear, plastic, and found objects through weaving, binding, sewing, and assemblage. Her work grows out of repeatedly walking the wrack-line and paying attention to what the tides leave behind. Bringing Tuck’s tactile sculptures into conversation with Skerry’s underwater photography, Oceans of Empathy encourages curiosity, connection, and care for the marine environment.
