Delicate lace structures create translucency and serve as a filter of light and negative space. In woven cloth, warp threads are anchored at both ends then crossed in straight lines by weft threads creating right angles at the intersections. In this class we will investigate patterns that manipulate those right angles, allowing threads to bend and curve once removed from the tension of the loom. Participants will be introduced to processes including open weave, leno lace, and huck lace. You will have the opportunity to make a sample of each process as well as complete one project of your choosing.
